Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). The greatest British Naval Hero. Defeated Napolean's Navy and lost his life in the Battle Of Trafalgar, which the British won.It was at Trafalgar thart Nelson gave one of thr most famous signals in history to the fleet--"England expects every man to do his duty." He pleased his countrymen with his great naval victories but he displeased them by flaunting his love affair with Lady Hamilton. The English decided to forgive Nelson for this love affair. In 1799 he was titled the Duke of Bronte bty the King of Genoa and thereafter he added that title to his signature.
In a recent poll, Nelson was rated the ninth greatest Briton in history-Winston Churchill was, not surprisingly, voted the greatest.
