Robert T. 'Bobby' Jones
Legendary American Golfer
Rare Autograph Note Signed

Robert T. 'Bobby' Jones (1902-1971). Legendary American Golfer, winner of five US Opens and three British Opens, along with Alister McKenzie designed the Augusta National golf course and started The Masters golf tournament held at Augusta each year. . Very Rare Autographed Note Signed, at the bottom portion of a fan's letter requesting a signed golf ball, no place or date, but circa early to mid-1950s. Reads:
            "I haven't been able to
            play golf for 5 years
            therefore have no golf balls.
            Hope enclosed will do
              Bob Jones".

Handwritten letters from Jones's early years are few and far between. Letters from later in his life, after he was struck with illness, they are virtually non-existent. In 1948, Jones would come face to face with the greatest challenge of his life. Suffering from severe back and neck pain, tests showed he had bone growths on three cervical vertebrae. Eventually, he was diagnosed with syringomyelia, a rare and degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Paralysis first required Jones to use a cane, then leg braces, and finally a wheelchair.

Known as "Bobby" or "Bob", Jones was arguably the greatest player who ever competed on a national and international level. Between 1923 and 1930 he won 13 "major" championships which ranks him only second behind Jack Nicklaus and his 20 "majors". Jones was the youngest player to ever play in a U.S. Amateur Championship Golf tournament. Jones was the first player to win The Double, both the US Open and The Open Championship (British Open) in the same year. Accompanied with an 8 in. by 10 in. black and white photograph of Jones golfing. Letter shows normal age toning and cross-folds. Overall, very unique in this form. $5,950.
